Group 18 - PCRO
My Peace Corps group - Group 18 - is like a second family for me in Romania. We first got to know each other in Chicago for 2 days of pre-service orientation, for which our pockets were loaded with money. Then we were shipped together (all 24 of us) to Romania via Amsterdam, then a 2 hour bus ride to the mountains in Bran. It was pretty exhausting getting started and discovering a wide spectrum of people (age, interest, background, funny accents - including my Chicago accent). We lived in small villages for 10 weeks, attending small classes on language and culture. We had host families - and many stories to go with those host families.

And after 10 weeks of training - we were considered "prepared" and ready to swear-in as real Peace Corps volunteers. We've lost some people from our group along the way - it is not easy to be away from home or given a job that requires a lot of your own initiative and a lot of resistance.
So I thought I would post some BLOGs about my group and some of our projects/get togethers for the last 21 months!
