Habitat for Humanity

Some of Group 18 got together for a Habitat for Human project in Cluj. We contibuted 14 people, one week of "sweat-equity" and about $1,000 to help make low-cost homes for low-income families in Cluj. It was a great project - it also gave a lot of insight about how difficult it is to develop low-cost housing. Aside from my girly job of pulling nails out of wood boards that would be used over and over until the were scrap, I also did a lot of pounding of dirt with a tree stump.

Others were in 6-9 feet deep holes digging out for the foundation with spades or shovels.

On our last night together, we camped out at the site. We had a bunch of tents, a fire, trivial pursuit, tacos and s'mores. That and beer and wine of course...

The houses we worked on should be done now and families will be living in them. Aside from all the fun of being together, it was a great experience to be part of and to contribute to.
